Did you do any DIY Projects or create any handmade items for your wedding?
In both the bride’s and the groom’s rooms we set up a charcuterie board and some drinks for everyone while they were getting ready. We also added in some peacock feathers in the aisle decor in memory of my father. The memorial table and my father’s seat was also decorated by us.
What creative or personal aspects did you include in your wedding?
Personal aspects we included in our wedding was a memorial table for all of our love ones that have passed away. The table was set up in our reception area.
We also had a seat in the front row decorated for my father who passed away two years ago. Another small detail was having a picture of me and my father attached to my bouquet so he got to “walk down the aisle” with me.
What is the most memorable moment of your day?
Other than marrying the love of my life, the most memorable part of my wedding was listening to my husband sing and play the guitar for me during our ceremony.
Another one was my son falling asleep on the floor right beside us during the ceremony.
What was the biggest thing you did to save money?
We were originally going to have our wedding on our family’s land, but after realizing how much money and time goes into the small details of planning your own wedding, we decided on a local venue that had everything included.
We decided to have our wedding at the Wildflower Barn in Kentucky. They had different packages, but the one we chose included them decorating and catering. This might not have saved us a lot of money but it definitely saved us a lot of headache because the venue took care of almost everything!
What was your biggest splurge?
Our biggest splurge was the wedding dress, groom’s outfit, and our kids’ outfits.
What was your favorite detail?
My favorite detail of the wedding had to be the picture of me and my father in a locket that was attached to my bouquet.
What’s the best advice you have for planning your wedding now that you’re on the other side?
My advice is to give yourself plenty of time to plan. We planned and had our wedding within five months of our engagement, and it was very stressful!
I also recommend a wedding planner or a venue that includes your choice of decor, catering, and DJ. For our wedding, I just went in and sat with their coordinator and picked out everything – from the time of the wedding to the color of the forks we would use. After I had done that, I never had to worry about it again and they took care of it all!
